Finding Articles ...: Searching Tips

You can search a variety of databases, however, begin with EBSCO Research Databases. Check the following: Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier.

Keywords

About Keywords

  • keywords save you time
  • keywords you choose to search databases or to search web determine the quality of your results
  • the more keywords you have on your subject, the more likely you will have successful results
  • try for at least ten keywords on your topic and use them in combination with the Boolean operator 'and'
  • if you know nothing about your topic, type in the main topic (such as genetics) and read the first article or two noting additional keywords

Here are some keywords you might use in a search for information on capital punishment:

  • death penalty
  • death row
  • execution
  • lethal injection
  • capital punishment

Here are some examples of search strings that would get additional information

  • death penalty and Texas
  • executions and statistics
  • lethal injection and statistics
