In 640 A.D., Yang Guang, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty, ordered to build several dozens of dragon boats and other boats for his trip to Yangzhou. His grand dragon boat was about 13.3 meters high and 59.2 meters long, with a central palace, private apartment, east and west Hall of Private Audience in the upper storey, and 120 rooms in the middle two stories, all decorated with treasures.
